Hash & Checksum Generator (SHA-256, SHA-512)

Generate SHA-256, SHA-1, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hashes for text or files — and verify download checksums — entirely in your browser. Nothing you hash is ever uploaded.

Your file never leaves your device — there's no upload step at all. You can verify it: open your browser's DevTools → Network tab and watch as you use the tool. Zero file uploads.· Updated July 2026.

Vira's brief

Use the tool locally, download the result, and contact VNG only when this needs to become a repeatable workflow.

Text to hash

…or hash a file

How it works

  1. 1

Type text or pick a file

Text hashes update as you type; files are hashed on your device with the Web Crypto API.

  2. 2

    Compare the checksum

Verifying a download? Paste the published SHA-256 next to the computed one — they must match exactly.

  3. 3

    Copy any hash

One click copies the full hex digest.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to hash secrets or private files here?

Yes — and that is the whole point of this tool. Hashing uses your browser’s built-in Web Crypto API on your own device. No text or file bytes are transmitted anywhere.

Why is MD5 not offered?

MD5 is cryptographically broken and browsers deliberately exclude it from the Web Crypto API. For file integrity checks, SHA-256 is the modern standard.

How do I verify a downloaded file?

Select the downloaded file here, then compare the computed SHA-256 with the checksum published on the download page. If they differ, the file was corrupted or tampered with.

How large a file can I hash?

Files up to a few hundred MB hash in seconds on a typical laptop, since your own CPU does the work.

Need this at scale — or something custom?

This tool runs entirely in your browser — that's the same privacy-first engineering we build for companies: dashboards, AI automation, data pipelines, and client platforms. One person, senior work, fast turnaround.
