Password-Protect PDF

Encrypt a PDF with a password so it can't be opened without it — done entirely in your browser. The file, and your password, never leave your device.

Your file never leaves your device — there's no upload step at all. You can verify it: open your browser's DevTools → Network tab and watch as you use the tool. Zero file uploads.

Frequently asked questions

Is my password sent anywhere?

No. Encryption happens on your device with pdf-lib — neither the file nor the password ever leaves your browser.

What encryption is used?

Standard PDF encryption (RC4/AES per the PDF spec). It stops casual opening; for regulated data use a dedicated vault.

I forgot the password — can you recover it?

No. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no copy to recover from. Keep the password safe.
